Baby Costumes

Published by yokoshima at 10:41 am under Cosplay Construction/Sewing Tips Edit This

I feel bad for new parents at Halloween time. They think it’s going to be so great to dress up their new bundle of joy. Then they go shopping and find out all there is are pumpkin, clown, and angel costumes. :/ I mean poor kids being dressed up as pumpkins. My friend Sam in the UK has a really cute kid that pulled off the pumpkin look. He wasn’t a baby though; he was about 4.

Last night a friend of a friend was telling me he had to go to Build-a-Bear to get a costume for his new daughter. She is 2 1/2 months old so they bought some of the stuffed animal clothing. I saw on a talk show like Maury once that the Build-A-Bear clothes fit dwarves well and some dwarves shop there for clothing. That’s pretty cool that it works out. I mean it’s too bad they can’t find clothes easier, but Build-a-Bear at least has cute trendy clothes for their bears.

To get anything decent for a baby it has to be custom made. The crappy part is that they grow so quickly it doesn’t last long. The good part is it’s a cute little souvenier to keep.

If you make your own baby costume, be sure to keep safety in mind. Use soft fabrics like stretch velvet and fleece. You may also have to forgo any details that could get eaten by or tangled with the baby. Also, be sure all loose threads are cut. That’s a no brainer, but check carefully!

I was looking through my files for a picture of the baby costume I made last time, but couldn’t find it. Oh well. My posts don’t need pictures, right? It just makes it moreĀ fun.

Mom used to make such amazing costumes for us as kids, and now I still make my own!

I don’t know about as infants, but when we were a bit older we were coke cans, crayons, carrots, spiders, on and on!
