Costume Storage

Published by yokoshima at 9:35 am under Cosplay Construction/Sewing Tips Edit This

Over the years I’ve made so many costumes I don’t know what to do with them all. Some have been sold. That’s always good because it puts back into the money pool and makes space for something new. I try to have something new for every major event I attend, so the costumes and pieces pile up, literally.

The best thing I’ve found for storage is plastic bins. They come in all shapes, sizes, and even colors. I love the ones you can see inside so you know what is inside before you grab and unpack it. Plastic bins also keep out dust, bugs, odor, and icky stuff like that. Bins also stack easily so you don’t have funky shapes that take up a lot of space. They are also very durable. When traveling to a convention, I have taped up a plastic bin and taped an airport id tag to it and it’s ready to ride the airplane.

I also have lots of leftover scraps and supplies. I use plastic bins for those too. They’re good for just about everything!

Be sure not to overspend on them though! I’ve seen them sell for $10-15 each. If you hunt around or get them on sale, the target price range is $5-7 for a medium-large bin.
