Gothic Lolita Bible Event
It looks like Tokyo Pop is sponsoring a Gothic-Lolita inspired event at the Metreon in San Francisco. The Gothic Lolita Bible is the most popular publication for the EGL community and also touches upon “fruits” and Japan street fashion. It is a very thick fullcolor magazine that follows fashion trends, music, and even provides patterns and how-to’s to create your own gothic lolita fashions. After years of success in Japan, it was brought here.
The event takes place Saturday August 16th. It runs from 4pm-7 or 8pm if I remember correctly. Some of the activities include a cookie decorating contest, swapmeet and showing of “brand” name EGL clothing, socializing, and a fashion show. Tickets to the event cost $10. You can pre-purchase tickets and additional tickets will be sold onsite while supplies last by Kamakaze Anime. The event itself is being sponsored by Tokyo Pop. There should be a lot of Gothic Lolita cosplayers as well as Dollfies and other dolls dressed up. Photographing and posing will be an event in itself.
Sounds like it will be a ton of fun. I have no clue as to where it will actually be held. I’m sure there will be lots of photos taken in the park/yard just like the gatherings in Japan. Metreon is ever-changing but there are always interesting shops and eateries. I was surprised to find the comic and Bandai shops gone. The arcade is also incredibly different each time I go. It’s amazing how different arcades can actually be.
Unfortunately I will be working earlier the day of the Gothic Lolita Bible event, so I’m not sure much will be happening by the time I get there. I’d love to attend and provide coverage, but alas bills need to be paid. If only I could get paid to report or work at more of the cool events.
Blog coverage this week was post-poned due to attending Linux World in San Francisco. I would do a full report except it has very little to report. There is little that is cosplay related although I had many chances to ‘geek out’.
Stay tuned, folks! Don’t to forget to comment. Let me know you’re all alive out there! *pings readers*
*UPDATE* They are also seeking volunteer models to work the fashion event. The casting is for models 16-27, size 1-8. It is unpaid, but the photos wind up in the magazine and it’s great modeling experience. I just think it would be fun to wear the big expensive EGL designs. :D Unfortunately I’m working a paid modeling promotion so I can’t cancel for this. I’d like to, but money, responsibility, and accountability are sorta important to me. D: If you’re interested in modeling for the show, by all means, please go for it! In my opinion it should be paid; I think TokyoPop has enough money… I guess you get free admission. :/
Here’s more info if interested courtesey of their original Craigslist post. I take no responsibility or credit for this entry below:
TOKYOPOP is seeking models to participate in a Gothic & Lolita fashion showcase as part of an event at the Metreon, San Francisco, on the evening of Saturday, August 16.
We are looking for female models, ages 16-27 (or young looking), any height, and size 2 to 8. This is an alternative fashion show with designs reflective of a Japanese street fashion called Lolita. (Any model under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
All participation is on a volunteer basis, and anyone involved will be working for experience and for print only. (Photos of the fashions and the event will appear in the December issue of Gothic & Lolita Bible.) You will be able to receive photos for your work.
The fashion show will take place August 16th at 6:00 pm with a rehearsal at 2:00 pm with hair and makeup to follow at 3:00pm. The fashion show will occur at the following location:
The Metreon, 2nd Level Action Theatre
101 Fourth Street
San Francisco, CA 94103
Interested models may submit comp cards or a reasonable facsimile (photos with measurement information) to the submissions email below. We also will be holding an open call directly preceding the event to fill any remaining slots. Please contact the submissions e-mail below for the time and location of that call.
Potential models should be prepared to bring their own appropriate footwear for the event: black or white Mary Janes, ballet flats, feminine lace-up boots (such as granny boots or lace-up platform boots), or rounded-toe flats are safe bets.
TOKYOPOP is also looking for hair stylists and make-up artists. If you are interested, please contact us.
